Why do you love sharing beauty tips and encouragement with @goodlifecarrie?

Hair is healing. It has a magical power to make you feel good. I love giving my audience the tools to make themselves feel good by sharing easy hacks and inspirations.

For women who feel in a rut or have lost confidence over the years, what’s “the secret” to finding it again?

Work, kids, hormones, life … we all wobble in confidence. For me the key is to reconnect with a time when you felt your best. What were you wearing? What was the perfume? Makeup? Hair cut or color?

Find that time and bring it to the present by recreating it now. It might be a leather jacket, a pair of boots, a lipstick, or a haircut. Connect with the version of yourself when you felt amazing and bring her to your present. A bouncy blow-dry works for me every time!

What’s a beauty tip you learned that you’ll never forget?

Unless you live in a very hot climate where hair dries quickly, don’t air dry your hair. Wet hair is at its most fragile and can break easily so heat protect and get it dry.

Any special tips for taking care of silver/white/gray hair?

Hydrate! Non-pigmented hair thrives with hydrating shampoos and conditioners. Reduce the heat on your dryer or tongs to avoid yellow tones. And detox shampoo weekly to remove any product build up which again can yellow tones.

How do you take care of your hair in wintery and dry seasons?

I apply oil every evening to my mid-lengths and ends and try to wear my hair up outdoors as much as possible. Cold is just as bad as hot temperature for hair, as is wind! Hats for summer, and silk-lined beanies and big scarves for winter.

For women with naturally thinner hair, what styling advice or recommendations would you share?

Get a good shampoo and conditioner for fine hair and avoid conditioner in the shower. Opt for leave-in spray or heat protector with leave-in conditioning. Blunt haircuts can really bulk out fine hair and avoid layers. Setting fine hair in rollers is old school, but it’s ideal for bobs and mid length.

What are your can’t-live-without hair products?

Hair oil, heat protection, and hairspray.

What are your go-to hair accessories to keep your hair routines feeling fun and fresh?

My accessories follow the seasons―claw clips, barrettes, hair pins, and bows are staples. Currently in a gold and tortoiseshell fall vibe that will turn black, red, gold, and silver for Christmas!

What’s your favorite, EASY, everyday hairstyle for any hair type?

A low bun! Even for the finest hair a low, slick bun goes with any outfit from school run to date night. Always chic. Try Carrie’s go-to slick back stick!

Why is having a good beauty routine important?

A good beauty routine is important at any age. What you do in younger years (sun, smoking, bad products, procedures) can age you prematurely. But taking care of yourself should be done out of self love, not pressure to fit in or look young.

What personal wellness routines have been most important for you in this season of life?

Prioritizing myself and scheduling non negotiable me-time. Getting up 15 minutes before my family to journal or meditate, and exercising for strength and de-stressing, not to be skinny.

Who or what has inspired you the most in your beauty and hair journey?

Brigitte Bardot is my forever inspiration. Chic yet effortless, and regularly sporting a bow. I just adore her ageless aesthetic. Less is always more, and Bardot was the queen of understated glam with a sexy undertone.
